A weekend in Leipzig is simply not enough. That’s definitely clear. Before I went to Leipzig, I didn’t really know what to expect. Some say so, others say so. But the nice thing about traveling is that everyone can form their own opinion. For my part, I was very enthusiastic about Leipzig and I would like to go there again in the summer. Why especially in summer? Well, you’ll find out in the course of the article.
Getting there:
Many roads lead to Leipzig. Whether in the car or on the train. The duration of Hamburg is similar. You can take the train directly from Hamburg Central Station to Leipzig Central Station without having to change trains. The travel time is around 4 hours +/-.
Sleeping:
As in many cities, the variety of hotels is also available here. However, we chose the Townhouse Leipzig Vagabond Club. A wonderful decision for so many reasons.
Location:
The townhouse is located directly in the city. From here you can really walk to almost EVERYTHING. Regardless of whether restaurants, bars, sights or of course not to be forgotten – shopping! It’s wonderful because you don’t need a taxi or anything else. You literally stumble into the city. And from the train station you can get there on foot. I would say a 10 to 15 minute walk. Townhouse is across from St. Thomas Church and one of the Bach monuments. Can be seen very well from the restaurant.
Zimmer & Hotel:
I’m an absolute fan of boutique hotels. I love these small, extraordinary hotels where there is always something to discover. You have surely already noticed in my other articles. This hotel is small, but very nice. There is even a small SPA area with a sauna for those who want to relax a bit.

Further through you come to the really large bathroom. If you want, you can really do a little tap dance. There is enough space. A bit of storage space would still be very helpful. With two girls with a lot of make-up and the like, we had a bit of a problem.
The toiletries are great. The soaps and lotions smell incredibly intense and good. But above all, the skin is nice and soft afterwards. It is not worth carrying your own body lotion with you.
Everything is very cozy and tastefully decorated. However, the painted ceiling was especially great. That gives the room a very specific flair. It is located in the historical building from 1509, but with all the modern conveniences.
Two very cozy and warm bathrobes await you on the bed. As a frostbite, I love to wear a bathrobe after taking a shower.
Another plus: the free minibar. I think that should really be the standard in every good hotel. I always appreciate something like that and it is a really good service for every vacationer!
But what you need to know. There are various stairs and if you can’t climb stairs well, you will have problems with the room. There is no direct elevator there. Fortunately, no problem for us. We are fit and healthy and climbing a little stairs is good for us.
Lobby:
The lobby is super cute and we couldn’t resist taking photos directly on the cool picture wall. However, I have been told that it will be remodeled soon. I’m curious what the architects will come up with.
Das Restaurant Bull & Bonito
The restaurant functions as a breakfast room in the morning. Do you want to feel a bit of the Hawaiian flair in Leipzig? Then the Bull & Bonito is just right for you. I think it’s a really cool concept. The breakfast is (partly) a la carte. Why partially? There is a small but very fine buffet. There are things like different jams, cold cuts (selected cheese and sausage), muesli and co. In addition, fresh orange juice and a very tasty, green smothie. At the buffet there is also a wonderful selection of small, extremely tasty rolls and bread. That too, I love those little buns. A normal bun is always too much for me when there are other things at the buffet.
Here they are small and very different and it is fun to try them. So, back to the a la card. There is a menu on which you can order an egg dish (omlette, scrambled eggs, pouched and co) and on the other side of the menu a Hawaiian specialty or, if you like, Mediterranean. Of course, we ordered from the Hawaii card on both days.
When else do you have the opportunity, please. We always ordered different things so we could try. But my absolute favorite is and will be the bowl. I could have sat down. The taste buds were served 100% here. Just delicious. I know I can do a lot with “delicious”, but let’s put it this way: When I think about it, my mouth watered again …
Look at this beautiful view in the morning.
Conclusion Hotel:
The hotel and the location are perfect for a city break. I somehow have to drive my car every day and I often struggle through the mega traffic jams in Hamburg. I think it’s great not to have to take a car on the weekend. To be able to drink a glass of wine and to be able to walk home (hotel) relaxed. Everything is given here. You are right in the city. All good bars, pubs, restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance. Even in high heels. The staff is always very attentive. Whether in the restaurant or at the reception. It is individual and you feel that you are in good hands.
Interestingly, the restaurants in Leipzig empty very quickly. Which we found quite unusual as hamburgers. So after eating, people don’t sit for hours and drink various glasses of wine. Most people get up and leave immediately after they have eaten. We noticed that on both days in different restaurants. In any case, when we were almost swept out of the other restaurant shortly before midnight on a Friday and although the staff at Bull & Bonito was already cleaning up, we got a glass of wine and were allowed to relax in the restaurant to drink. Again and again the request came that we could drink in peace. She’d still have a bit to do here and there anyway. We definitely thought it was very, very nice.
There were a few things here that I thought made good service. I had already named these in the course of the article.
Attractions
I wish I could list all the sights there is to see in Leipzig. But I have to admit, our time was limited and unfortunately we were really only able to see a small part. Next time I will definitely do this hop on / hop off tour. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough this time.
The Thomaskirche is located opposite the hotel. It was best known through Johann Sebastian Bach and the St. Thomas Choir. Built around 1212 and an absolute treasure inside. Even if you think you’ve seen all of the churches, it’s definitely worth entering. There is another beautiful church, but we haven’t been there. The Nikolaikirche.
You are forced to pass the market and the old town hall when you go into town. Be sure to stop and admire. Incidentally, the old town hall is one of the oldest and most important buildings in Germany.
Passages .. I never would have thought that Leipzig has so many passages. One could spend a whole day going from passage to passage. One of them is the Mädler Passage. The Auerbach Keller is located here. He became famous because Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is said to have been here several times during his student days. Two groups of figures can be seen at the entrance. One depicts Faust and Mephisto and the other a couple of enchanted students.
Eat and Drink
A weekend is of course not long enough to fight your way through Leipzig’s culinary scene. However, we tried to test as much as possible as best we could. Extra for you. Small joke.
Shiki Leipzig
Sushi and Asian specialties in a sophisticated atmosphere. Delicious food and super friendly staff. I’m not really a fan of sushi, but I have to say, I liked it very much. The other dishes also looked very good and what I heard they taste excellent too. Everything is definitely very fresh.
In the middle of the city and again integrated in a passage. (Klostergasse 18, 04109 Leipzig)

Bachstüb’l
If you are in the mood for coffee and cake, you will find it here. The cakes all looked delicious. We made the mistake of ordering cheese. Please, prefer to order cake, because that is their specialty.
Cozy on a cold, dark winter day. Always very well attended. (Thomaskirchhof 12, 04109 Leipzig)
INNSIDE
If you feel like looking over the city, you can have a drink on the terrace at the INNSIDE Hotel. In winter there are such small igloo tents, where you can sit comfortably in a group. It’s a fun idea. (Gottschedstrasse 1, 04109 Leipzig).
Barfußgässchen
This is one street where you can find one pub after the other. That is why it is also known as the famous Leipzig pub mile. Always full even in winter due to the radiant heaters. You can sit down here and watch the people go by. I love that. (Center)
Shopping
What can I say. In the whole city there are almost all fashion chains that you know from bigger cities. From Zara to Reserved, Intimissimi (my favorite) to Hunkemüller, H&M to Primark, TK Maxx to Breuninger. There is almost everything here that makes a shoppers’ heart beat faster. And everything is within walking distance.
Some more impressions
Leipzig is really beautiful. Everywhere there are cafes and bars that have tables and chairs outside. There are still great things to discover outside of the city, such as the small rivers and Co. In summer, when the weather is good, this city is definitely even more enchanting.
Lustige Geschichte am Rande
Just this weekend, lateral thinkers, anti-vaccination opponents and opponents decided to demonstrate in Leipzig. As we strolled through the city, we noticed that more and more personnel carriers drove past us. They lined up in the market square. As we walked towards the train station, we were met by some from the black block and large water cannons and even more police. Some passages closed the entire side entrances and could only be entered from one side. Helicopters circled our heads all day.
But, we didn’t notice anything on our shopping tour (unbelievable). Later we read on the net that several thousand demonstrators were only a few streets away from us and that even the demo had escalated a bit.
I was lucky again, I would say. 😉
stimulates collagen formation and promotes skin renewal. This means that the skin is refined, more delicate and small wrinkles disappear.
I am currently using these two products from M. Asam. Basically, I always think serums are very good. They are quickly absorbed by the skin and do not leave a greasy or oily film on the skin. Especially when you travel, your skin needs a little more care from drafts and the like.
I often buy trial sizes. They take up less space in the luggage.
